Faculty Development Program (FDP)

The Faculty Development Program (FDP) was a program developed by blending Articles 33 and 35 of the Higher Education Law No. 2547, covering domestic and international doctoral education, in order to contribute to the training of faculty members needed by our country.

In this program, while science and technology were produced in our universities on the one hand, faculty members were trained on the other. One of the most important features of the model, which operated as a domestic-international doctoral program, was that the graduating academic staff returned to their own university with a research project prepared with their thesis advisor and could continue joint research there.

The operation of FDP, which was based on framework protocols made among universities, was carried out by joint commissions and juries formed by the faculty members and administrators of these universities, and its financing was provided by the Ministry of Development (formerly known as the State Planning Organization) and the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). The most important objective of the program was to train qualified academic staff to close Türkiye's faculty member deficit and to ensure that other universities benefit from the knowledge of a university that is strong in any field within the scope of collaboration.
