EURAXESS and the National Context
EURAXESS - Researchers in Motion is a joint initiative of the European Commission that provides information and support services to researchers regarding mobility and career development opportunities in Europe. It strengthens Europe's cooperation both within itself and with the world.
TÜBİTAK serves as a Bridgehead Organization to facilitate openness, transparency, and a merit-based approach in the recruitment processes of researchers and represents Türkiye in the European Commission's EURAXESS initiative.

METU is a EURAXESS Service Center and holds the distinction of being the first in Türkiye.
Attracting Talent to METU
Making open positions within METU visible across Europe.
- Supporting research groups and departments at METU to announce their open positions on the EURAXESS portal.
- Informing researchers in Europe about career and funding opportunities offered by METU.
- Positioning our university as an attractive hub for international academic talent.
Support Services for Researchers
Facilitating the administrative processes of researchers joining METU from abroad.
- Administrative guidance in planning the arrival (visa, residence permit) to and departure processes from Türkiye.
- Providing practical information regarding accommodation, healthcare services, and daily life in Ankara.
- Offering support in the adaptation processes of researchers and their families to the institution and the city.
Career Development and Institutional Capacity
Providing a supportive, transparent, and merit-based working environment for researchers.
- Continuously improving internal practices in line with the "HR Excellence in Research" action plan.
- Ensuring open, transparent, and merit-based recruitment (OTM-R) standards.
- Implementing strategies to enhance researchers' professional skills and innovation capacity.
HR Excellence in Research
HR Excellence in Research, one of the most important components of EURAXESS, serves as a vital milestone on the path to becoming a truly researcher-friendly university. Moving forward with this vision since 2018, METU continuously improves its human resources practices in line with European standards. For the 2026 "HR Excellence in Research" renewal process, METU has updated its Action Plan based on the 20 principles of the revised Charter, once again demonstrating its commitment to a supportive, attractive, and excellence-oriented research environment.
